Yarn Stampede

Posted in General at 9:00 am by Rachel

Ewe’ll Love It, My mom’s LYS (in Nashua, N.H.) is having a huge sale this weekend. Today from 10-2 all yarn is 30 percent off. From 2-5 it’s 35 percent off. And tomorrow it’s 40 percent off. Needless to say I’m hopping in the car in about a half hour to go elbow some fellow knitters violently out of the way if they look like they’re about to descend on my Debbie Bliss cashmerino aran (or what have you). I expect it to be a madhouse, which should be fun in some ways but will actually probably utterly overwhelm me, with one of two results: 1) I freeze up and buy nothing at all and go home feeling like a failure, or 2) I freak out and buy a ton of ill-advised yarn that I have no plans for but felt like I had to buy something because it was on sale. I do not handle shopping pressure well.

It’s a really great store, though, so if you find yourself in southern New Hampshire this weekend, I urge you to check it out. If you’re finding out from me, though, and you do wind up going, I ask you to respect the international rules of sale tip-offs and yield the right-of-way to me in the mad dash for the Manos.

Bobblicious in BedNew topic. You’ve all seen this photo before. It’s the “suggested use” photo that I used to enlighten my sister on what the hell that giant knitted tube with bobbles was that I sent her for her birthday. Well, listen up all y’all who thought it was a foolish pattern worthy of dismissal (I’m thinking of you, Laura dear). My sister called to report that when she wears Bobblicious in bed as pictured here, here kitties crawl up into the sleeves and curl up and go to sleep under her arms. TELL ME THAT IS NOT THE CUTEST THING YOU’VE EVER HEARD. Go ahead. Try to tell me.

I have to get on my way so I can get up to Nashua before there’s nothing left but fun fur. When I get home I’m sure I will be revved up to knit in high gear all weekend. I expect to be over three-quarters finished with the Reversible Rib Shawl by Monday (thanks, Superbowl!)

Please don’t get trampled (how do you spell that word?)! And I have to tell you that I have yet to finish seaming my Bobblicious because there’s always a cat sleeping on it, ot trying to get me away from it. They love it! It’s the Lion Brand yarn perhaps ;).

You absolutely must show us the spoils of your stampede! That yarn shop looks fabulous. And you’re taking your mom with you, right?

I am SO excited for some SuperBowl knitting. Go HAWKS!!! (you’ll be rootin’ for them, right???)

Lucky you to be able to go to the yarn sale!! Wish I could go but it’s a little far for me to travel (as well as across the border).

I think it would be absolutely cute to have the kitties crawling up the sleeves to sleep! She should send you a picture of it to post on your blog!

You win. That IS the cutest thing I’ve ever heard. Cats have some sort of comfort-seeking device built in. I think it may have someting to do with their wiskers.

    That store is Amazing.

Cats in the sleeves?! Suddenly the pattern becomes practical! Why didn’t the designer show that feature in the photos? The pattern would have made much more sense to me.

When you make one for me, don’t forget to stuff a cat up each sleeve. :-)

Oh. My. God. That is definitely the cutest thing I’ve ever heard. My cat would never go for it though. She only sheds on visible surfaces, or on things that sneakily transfer to visible surfaces, like coat linings or suitcases. :(

It’s so unfair, we don’t have LYS like that here! And yes, that is the cutest thing ever heard…
